After reading these lines, I thought of seeing whether this statement applies to cricket… and to my surprise, this does apply to cricket as much as to the stock markets. A great defensive player, Rahul Dravid has got better batting average compared to a great aggressive player, Virender Sehwag… And Dravid had a longer career due to his consistency. Both have been top order batsmen and both have played at similar points in time. These are the ODI stats:

Usual mindset assumes – more aggression ensues more success In Reality – Great Defense ensures you are in the game for more time which will automatically move the success probability in your favor.
